This morning J.cole’s highly anticipated debut album “The Sideline Story” was leaked over the internet. In a recent interview with Vibe magazine J.cole spoke on his album leaking over the interview.
“If anything the leak will reach out to more people who might be like ‘ah man, let’s go get this.’ So you know, it’s kind of like promotion these days—if you got a good album. If you don’t have a good album—they’ll just trash you.”
“There’s been worse leaks than that so I understand it’s apart of the game—I always understood that. As long as people hear it together—it’s cool. I just know that people who are going to buy it were going to buy it anyways and the people who weren’t—probably weren’t anyways.”
After listening to the album (yes I downloaded it) it is definitely a classic. I will still purchase the album next Tuesday to support J.cole and real hip-hop. Cole had his fans in anticipation for a debut album since releasing “The Come Up” in 2007. A mixtape that showed his potential of what he could bring to the table in hip-hop. In 2009 he released “The Warm up” which showed his growth on the mixtape circuit, it also featured “Lights Please” which caught the attention of Jay-z. This would lead to him being the first artist Jay-z signed under Roc Nation. In the Fall of 2010 he gave his fans “Friday Night Lights”. A mixtape that ended up being better than most hip-hop albums released in 2010. Since the release of FNL last November Cole’s fans have been on pins and needles for a debut album. He did not disappoint with a 19 track album including the intro and one interlude. This is definitely a must buy album the minute it’s available in stores.
